FAQs & Docs

So.  You are looking for information about the "Test of English as a Foreign Language" (aka TOEFL)?

We have good news and bad news for you.

The good news is:  you can find information on TOEFL by going to the Educational Testing Service (http://www.ets.org/toefl/) website.  That should get you started.

The bad news is:  you may need some work on your test-taking skills.  This website, as perhaps you have noticed by now, is about Thermoelectrics and has nothing whatever to do with the TOEFL exams.   Even though the spelling (ets.org vs. its.org) is similar, the meaning is entirely different.  The context (i.e. the fact that this website is about thermoelectrics, and not testing) might have been a clue for you.

Although you have not had a particularly auspicious start, we wish you the best of luck on your exams.

  • Set up bank account for ICT funds
    • Have a qualified person in charge of all money. The less hands to touch it the better.
    • Keep a detailed account of all received and spent funds.
  • Choose Advisory Board members
  • Determine Budget
  • Enlist Financial Support
  • Choose facility
    • Compose a list of hotels & room rates - attendees will book directly
    • Have a list of amenities and all other highlights of the hotel.
  • Determine a conference site (meeting rooms and hotels) and dates.
  • Determine Budget of Costs & Responsibilities
    • ITS Membership Fees (currently $50 for members and $25 for students)
    • Publishing and shipping CD & Book of Proceedings to conference attendees
    • Conference Meeting Site (typically, you need to plan on running two parallel sessions and they should be well synchronized with exactly parallel time tables. You should also provide adequate space for the display of posters.)

The most important thing to run a successful ICT Conference is to find a good Administrative Assistant who should be involved early on in the planning stages. He/she will only need to work a few hours a week early on. However, when the abstracts are due and the fees start coming in he/she will be working 20 hours a week or more. Administrative Assistant will be paid from your conference fees. As the conference date approaches, more administrative support may be needed.

The following notes have been been prepared by the International Thermoelectric Society to aid future organizers to prepare proposals and plan for hosting the annual International Conference on Thermoelectrics.

Versions of this document are attached in *.pdf and *.doc formats.

In the early years of the International Thermoelectric Society a newsletter "Thermoelectric News" was printed and mailed to members once or twice a year. Eleven issues were published, ten of which are attached below. Volume 9 from 1997 is not presently available. If anyone has a copy, please contact the ITS webmaster and we will post it here.

Three Thermoelectric Directories (1994-6) were also published and distributed. Each of these documents are made available as attachements below.
