A postdoctoral position is available in the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS) in Tsukuba, Japan, in the field of thermoelectric materials research. The NIMS Postdoctoral Fellow will be affiliated to the Atomic Network Materials Group (Group Leader: Takao Mori) in the WPI (World Premier International Research Center) International Center for Materials Nanoarchitectonics and will do research in the Tsukuba Innovation Arena (TIA) NanoGreen project.
Research topic will be synthesis of novel materials (e.g., borides, silicides, oxides) and also development of micro/nanostructure control of highly efficient materials, together with characterization and properties measurements.

Appointment is initially for 12 months, starting as soon as possible, and has the possibility to be renewed each year for a maximum of three years.
Wages (as of August 19, 2012): 357,561 yen/month
Applicants should have a strong background in materials science, solid-state chemistry and physics. Experience in sintering (SPS) would be an advantage.
