Introductory remarks from Michitaka Ohtaki

Under the leadership of Professor Kunihito Koumoto, the President of ITS in
2003-2005, we are preparing a symposium focusing on thermoelectric materials
at the international conference, IUMRS-ICAM2003 (International Union of
Materials Research Societies, International Conference on Advanced
Materials), being held in October 2003 in Yokohama, Japan.

Currently we are a little behind the schedule, and negotiation with the
tentative invited speakers listed on the symposium page is just starting.
However, we would like to ask our colleagues to see the symposium web page
and make their mind to submit papers for oral and poster presentations at
the only international conference in Japan featuring thermoelectrics for the
last 5 years after 17-ICT in Nagoya, 1998.

The conference site is the same place where 12-ICT was held in 1993 as the
first ICT in Japan.

Please feel free to tell me about any

"Advanced Thermoelectric Materials for Environment-Friendly Energy Systems"

Co-organized by The Thermoelectric Society of Japan (TSJ)

Scope
Since more than 60% of the world primary energy supply has been wasted as
heat, efficient utilization of heat energy by thermoelectric conversion is
becoming of vital importance for sustainable energy futures. Thermoelectric
cooling is also attracting keen interests as a highly flexible, completely
CFC-free heat management technology.

This symposium covers a broad range of topics on thermoelectric materials
for environment-friendly power generation and cooling at rapidly progressing
frontiers of energy conversion technology, materials science, and physics
and chemistry of condense matters. The symposium will feature contributed
papers as well as some invited talks particularly on the following topics
(not restricted, though).

International Conference on Advanced Materials, IUMRS-ICAM2003, will be held
at Yokohama, Japan on October 8-13, 2003. IUMRS-ICAM2003 will cover world
progress in the fields of advanced materials.
