+- ICT2006 Manuscripts Due July 15, 2006
Details: http://www.its.org/ict2006
and/or http://www.univie.ac.at/ICT06/
ICT2006 authors should note that full camera-ready manuscripts are due July
15, 2006. This is the first time an ICT has requested manuscripts prior to
the conference, but the practise is not unusual in many conferences. Also
note that manuscript preparation instructions, a schedule, preliminary
program, list of registered participants and other details are available on
the website above.
The following circular (included here in case anyone missed it) was also
recently sent out to participants by the Conference Chair:
From: Peter Rogl
Subject: ICT06 3 circular(5)
Date: Sat, 8 Jul 2006 10:54:09 +0200
To: ICT2006 Participant
Dear Participants,
1) This is a reminder that the DEADLINE FOR MANUSCRIPTS is approaching
fast.
Please turn in your manuscript in camera ready form (and the copyright
form)
NOT LATER THAN JULY 15th. Please use the template and instructions as given
in the website!.
2) Oral presentations will be in the general case 20 min including 5 min
for
discussion. There will be laptops and beamers available for POWER POINT
PRESENTATIONS. HOWEVER, THERE WILL BE NO OBVERHEAD FACILITIES! (At the last
5 conferences I attended nobody used overheads anymore). Thus please take
your oral presentation on a CD-rom or memorystick. You certainly are
welcome
to present from your private laptop in case you will take it to the
conference.
3) Posters will be mounted on magnetic wallpaper: The maximum size will be
A0 (841 mm wide and 1189 mm high). DO NOT USE SIZES EXCEEDING the A0-space
in any form - you will have severe difficulties to mount them properly!
4)The final programme with timetable will be posted in the website by end
of
next week
We are looking forward in seeing you in Vienna

+- 4th IECEC Held in San Diego June 26-29, 2006
http://www.aiaa.org/content.cfm?pageid=230&lumeetingid=1309
The 4th International Energy Conversion Engineering Conference was held
June 26-29 in San Dieago, CA USA. The IECEC has long been a popular
venue for presentations related to US Space Power. A number of titles with
thermoelectric content were included in the agenda this year (some of which
are listed below), although we have had word that one
thermoelectric-related session may have been canceled.
Thermoelectric related titles from the 4th IECEC Agenda:

+- Mini fridge exploits brownian motion
A recent Phys Rev. Lett. discusses a kind of molecular-scale Browian
motion motor which can perform work and/or produce cooling:
C. Van den Broeck, R. Kawai Phys. Rev. Lett. 96, 210601 (2006)
http://dx.doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevLett%2E96%2E210601
A preprint is available at http://arxiv.org:
http://arxiv.org/abs/cond-mat/0602153
and Nature has run a News and Views article on the subject
http://www.nature.com/materials/news/news/060601/journal/060529-1.html
While not expected to be particularly efficient and only a thought
experiment at this stage, thermoelectricians may find the use of Onsager's
relations interesting. Indeed, the authors do not directly estimate
efficiency but any good thermoelectrician ought to be able to generate
efficiency expressions rather, well, efficiently based on the author's
published results.
