Efficiency of SiGe TE

Hi~

Recently, I am interested in the TE in the space applications. I know the SiGe material is most commonly used in high temperature situations. I want to know how could I calculate the efficiency of certain TE in certain temperature difference, such as 1300K and 750K? And between these temperatures, which TE has the highest efficiency?

Peltier by Thomson

Hi
What I understand is, Seebeck effect is just the first Thomson effect (Thermal gradient on single conductor creating an electromotive force) for the both conductors in thermocouple.

But how is Peltier effect explained with Thomson effect?

Second Thomson effect states that current on a conductor with thermal gradient makes one part of the conductor heat up and another part cool down due to the current being resisted or accelerated by the electromotive force created by the thermal gradient.

Sign of material's thermopower

Hi,

 

I am abit confused regarding how to determine the sign of the seebeck coefficient.

S= [delta V]/ [delta T]

where both values are Hot - Cold

Is this the right defination?, there are also claims that there should be a negative sign in front of it which is kind of confusing.

And normally when you measure the thermopower of a material with respect to a material let say its copper, do you minus or plus to get the absolute thermoelectric power? I've read various journal which minus and plus.

Using Ansys 12 for thermal-electric applications

hey guys,

I am having abit of trouble using ansys 12 doing just a simple thermal-electric(peltier effec) simulation. Since there was no tutorial available, do anyone of you all know what's the boundary condition needed to be set before running the simulation? I have set the voltage and the initial hot end temperature.
